For the Love of a Beautiful Harlequin

♥Sambino, they were heartless to abandon you; but we were lucky to find you! ♥

We rescued this boy from a kill shelter in 2002, he came with a lot of baggage. It took some time to get him past his fear of men and being both mentally and physically abused. He had no clue what love and affection were, what it was like to be stroked and kissed, for the longest time he would flinch every time one of us tried to do so.

And it seemed an eternity before he finally felt secure in the fact that this was his home. If he went outside, when he wanted back in, he would just stand at the door and quietly wait, hoping that we would open the door and welcome him back...when all the others would bark or scratch at the door, taking it all for granted, he never dared...it broke my heart...I remember the first time he actually barked at the door to let us know he wanted back in, we celebrated that turning point with lots of "YAY SAMMY'S" and treats all around! As well as the first time he jumped on the bed to join us for snuggles.

And I will always remember that first kiss he gave me with such trepidation. We love you Sambino, couldn't love you any more if we had raised you from a puppy. You are part of our family and after these past 7 years with you, not one regret. You are my Sam Man!

Still under construction...
